In the first quarter of this year, Freedom has supported students through our Local Schools & Educational Institutions Competition.
The heart of the competition lay in its mission to empower students, schools and educational institutions, ensuring their voices are heard and aspirations supported. The campaign saw some fantastic entries and an outpouring of support in the form of shares, votes and comments.
Five remarkable initiatives emerged as the deserving recipients of $1,000 cash each, fueling their journey towards educational excellence.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes to every participant who dedicated their time, creativity and passion to this campaign. We thank and congratulate them for getting involved, and wish them all the best with their endeavours.
Let’s delve into the inspiring stories of our winners and the causes they champion. From innovative classroom projects to community outreach programs, each initiative embodies the spirit of resilience and determination that defines our community.
Coolnwynpin State School P&C
Idea: Create, Explore, Educate with 3D
The purchase and implementation of a brand new 3D printer in a small state school, giving life to the possibilities which would expand young minds by allowing complicated concepts to be simplified and tangible.
It aims to inspire, educate, encourage collaboration, highlight exploration and explode possibilities in young minds in a very unique way. This pathway may even uncover the next Johannes Gutenberg or Thomas Edison. How exciting!
Ormiston Crushers Basketball Club
Idea: Fundraiser
Ormiston Crushers Basketball Club is Redland City’s newest club. Basketball is not only one of the fastest growing sports in Australia but helps young kids by staying active and learning what it means to be part of a team.
The club is utilising these funds to help subsidise their ever-increasing costs. It will pay for court hire, expert coaching, uniform costs, trophies and medals for the kids, as well as subsidies fees. They are motivated by the chance to pay it forward.
Birkdale Scouts
Idea: Attend AJ2025 in January
Prize money is going towards getting Birkdale kids to the Scouts Jamboree in January 2025. Given that it’s only held every four years, most scouts only ever get one opportunity to go. The Australian Jamboree is an experience like no other.
Every four years, more than ten thousand scouts across Australia and the world meet for an unforgettable ten-day camp full of incredible activities, new challenges and endless opportunities to make friends for life. Scouts Queensland will host the event from 6-15 January at the Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park.
Capalaba Wildcats Basketball Club
Idea: BBQ Fundraising Equipment
The club hosts multiple BBQ fundraisers at the Capalaba PCYC to finance their basketball clinics, equipment and special events, while also keeping fees affordable for local families. However, due to safety regulations, they cannot use power leads to support a fridge, resulting in substantial expenses to keep food and drinks cold during hot Queensland temperatures.
With the prize money, they plan to purchase a display fridge to store fruit salads and fresh sandwiches, allowing them to reduce costs, focus on healthier options and expand their offerings, ultimately raising more funds for their non-profit basketball club.
